Truskavets is one of the oldest spas of Europe. It must be confessed, that it is not only health resort and location of mineral water “Naftusya”, but also a cultural, historically industrial centre with a centuries-old history. Annalistic records , the first of which appeared – hardly to believe – in 1469 prove it.
It is easy to start for rest to Truskavets! It has a through railway service with Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk. Moscow, St. Petersburgh, and such cities as Kishinev, Riga, Minsk, Peremishl, Prague. The nearest airport is situated only in a 1oo km from Lviv, and in 130 km from Ivano-Frankivsk.
Climatic treating as a way of health improvement. The city is situated at foothills of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, 350-400 m high, surrounded by low hills. Winter favours to rest in Truskavets, as it is relatively warm, the temperature never fells below 20°С. The spring is long, with light winds, and in summer the nature just provokes to enjoy its gifts (the temperature sometimes increases to +30–32°С). And when autumn and Indian summer come climatic treating is on its pique! The freshness of mountain air, moderate climate and life-giving force of mineral sources create the ideal conditions for health improvement.
There are many legends about origin of the town. As one of them tells, the basis for the name was strawberry, which is “truskawka” in Polish, and sounds like it. But in Europe this berry appeared only in 1712, and Truskavets has been known since the XV-th century.
The previous version is connected with Polish, and another with Lithuanian: the word “druska” means nothing but salt, and Pre-Carpathian lands have been known as the historic centre of salt-making. The names of the nearest places serve to be the examples of it: Staraya Sol, Solets, Solonsko.
Horses were the first guests. Truskavets has officially become the resort since 1827, when the rooms for the first eight baths have been built. For the first time Voicech Oczko (1857) described the healing properties of Truskavets waters. Long before the official discovering of the healing impact of the Truskavets ground waters local citizens used its strength, healing their diseases.
The source «Parshyvka» was the first health resort, which disappeared forever. And the first who treated themselves with these waters were … the scabby horses! Then people began to do it: those who had money took their baths with them, poured water into them, and warmed it in the sun, and those who were poor just dug a pit in the ground, poured water there, and got the necessary healing.
Despite the fact that at the end of the XIX-th century, the oil production became more priority, Truskavets has already become not less popular than European health resorts such as Richenhal and Wiesbaden since 1892.
Many honourable people poured into Truskavets, accordingly, villas and hotels of Truskavets became even more needed, and driving the railway line (in 1909) increased the number of volunteers to improve their health. Truskavets was opened for the whole year long.
The main reason of success was spas. “Naftusya” is considered to be the most famous mineral water of the health resort! The taste of the “oil water” may seem not to be very pleasant, but the course of treatment in Truskavets will help you to make sure in the healing influence of “Naftusya” for the body!
